Blattner Company’s hockey team will play the Minnesota Warriors Veteran’s Hockey team to raise funds for the MN Warriors program.

The game will help expand the MN Warriors, support the newly-created women’s MN Warrior hockey team, ice rental, travel and lodging, plus league fees for MN Warriors Hockey teams.

The game is Saturday at the Bernick’s Ice Arena at the Scheels Athletic Complex in Sartell. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

The night starts at 5 p.m. with team welcomes by a Sartell police and fire department escort to the arena. The game begins at 6 p.m. with a performance of the National Anthem by Minnesota Wild singer John DeCausemaker and an honorary puck drop by the current Ms. Woman United States and veteran advocate, Sara Peterson. St. Cloud State University’s men’s hockey public address announcer, Chuck Clausen, will call the game.

There will also be prizes and raffle items to win, including an SCSU gear package, MN Wild hockey tickets, Bauer hockey bags and SCHEEL’s gift cards.

“Blattner is honored to host this event for veterans of the Minnesota Warriors, and to honor and thank them for their service to our country,” said Christine Huston, Director, Marketing Communications at Blattner.

The Minnesota Warriors Ice Hockey Program has been organized for charitable and educational purposes, for United States Military personnel wounded, injured or otherwise disabled veterans of the United States military in conjunction with the USA Disabled Hockey Program, in order to assist our veterans with reintegration into civilian life.

Donna McDowall – Quanta Services Australia vice president of corporate development and strategy – was named the next president of the board to replace MPC Kinetic’s Tony O’Sullivan as he completes his two-year term.

This appointment kicks off a new two-year term, making McDowall the first female president in the association’s 54-year history. 

McDowell thanked the board members for their trust in appointing her and said the designation was a great honour and one she looked forward to commencing.

She acknowledged immediate past president O’Sullivan for his substantial contribution to the association over the past two years under especially trying circumstances.

Over the past year and a half, it has become apparent that when it comes to employees’ overall wellbeing, employers have an incredible opportunity to offer benefits that fit an employee’s unique needs – regardless of where they are in their health journey.

As Over the past year, Americans learned how to adapt their workforces in light of a pandemic, it is no surprise that the general idea of wellness has shifted. The winners of this year’s Healthiest Employers of Texas awards program have had to rethink their traditional methods of business to keep their workforce happy and healthy. According to the data of all Texas applicants in 2021, 87.7% of individuals in leadership roles serve on the wellness committee, and 86% of companies have a mission statement to support employee health.

Several organizations have been modifying their programming to assist employees outside of the workplace, especially during COVID-19 lock downs. Work-life and family balance are a huge component of what it takes to be considered one of the Healthiest Employers of Texas. 95.5% of applicants have provided flexible scheduling due to the pandemic, while 62.5% incorporated additional PTO hours, and 42% provided work from home stipends to applicable employees. Additionally, 87.7% of companies are providing at least two weeks of paid maternity leave and 69.8% are offering at least two weeks of paid paternity leave, as bonding with a newborn child is just as important for father figures.

For the past decade, Top 50 players have managed to top their previous year’s performances each year (as a collective group), typically with an increase of at least $1 billion per year. Given the ramifications of the pandemic on the 2020 market, we expected this year to be an exception to that rule. However, the Top 50 companies defied all odds, pulling in more than 34 billion in total electrical revenue in 2020, beating the $33.1 billion recorded in 2019 and the $28.8 billion mark from 2018.

2020 Electrical Revenue: $7.773 billion

Using a light-duty helicopter from Winco Powerline Services, ATC’s construction partner M.J. Electric, LLC will install the bird diverters to help keep birds safe while also ensuring the reliability of the transmission system.

“The diverters increase visibility of the wires and help protect birds from contacting the transmission lines while in flight,” said Michael Warwick, ATC senior environmental project manager. “Most of the diverters will be installed over or adjacent to wetlands and bodies of water to help protect larger, heavy-bodied species that do not maneuver easily such as geese, swans, pelicans, cranes and other waterfowl.”

Mears isalso active in the electric transmission and distribution, telecommunications, and water and sewer markets.

As it has for 50 years, Mears’ headquarters remains in the small town of Rosebush, Mich., but it now has locations in 24 other states.

Beginnings

In 1969, Herb Fluharty was a project engineer for Underwriters’ Laboratories (UL) in Chicago.

“I had grown up working on pipeline construction for the company my father founded, Welded Construction,” said Fluharty.

Although he was then employed at a large organization, Fluharty recognized and appreciated the challenges of owning a small business. When his father passed away, Fluharty wanted to move back to Rosebush to be closer to his mother and family.

About the same time, a friend started a land surveying and civil engineering business. “He encouraged me to go in that direction,” said Fluharty.

In June 1970, Fluharty, his wife, Chris, and three young children returned to Rosebush where he started a small surveying business. By 1974, the company was serving pipeline clients in central Michigan, and the scope of its services expanded to include machinery, engineering, accounting, repairs and sales.

In 1975 the company was renamed Mears – an acronym using the first letter of each word in its list of provided services – Engineering. It started, and remains, as a family matter, Fluharty owned and operated, and with an extended Mears “family.”
